OWINO NYOTA
Luo benga maestro Daniel Owino Misiani didn’t like to sit on his hands. Besides this AIT label, his band, Orch DO7 Shirati Jazz, also recorded for a wealth of other labels.
Production, at least on early records on this label, was by AF Jakomo, best known for working with expatriate Congolese bands such as Orch Super Mazembe and Les Kinois.
Thanks to Flemming Harrev for the information and scan of ON 3 and to Sofiane of Groovy Record in Paris for details of ON 6.
Their information unlocked the AIT master catalogue for me. It has a few errors, though, putting Jokale as ON 5 when it is clearly ON 3 and ascribing another song, Judy Aoko to that catalogue number. It’s unlikely, too, that ON2 and ON 4 had the same B-side.
The label name, by the way, means Owino Star.
