KULA WAYA WACHA SENG’ENGE
Thanks to Sofianne of Groovy Record in Paris for supplying details and a scan of WAYA 7004 in April 2011. It’s a single dating from the late 1980s/early 1990s by a Luo band who also recorded for Pole Pole. WAYA 7006 turned up on Ebay in January 2013, the wonderfully named band are again Luo, though I have no details of any other records by them.
Production on both records is by Makachola Records of Nairobi, an outfit who don’t figure anywhere else in this discography.
A January 2011 article in the Standard on Kenyan slang across the generations notes Kula Waya Wacha Seng’enge as a popular 1970s catchphrase, meaning roughly “You ain’t seen nothing yet”.
