Joseph Kamaru, leader of the City Sounds Band, is one of the best-known Kikuyu musicians. The City Sounds Band and New Celina Band were his main musical outlets but the Super Stars featured here also recorded for his Kamaru label.

I’ve yet to find a history of his activities detailed enough to outline the difference between these various bands, but you can find an overview of Kamaru’s career in an April 2009 Daily Nation interview with him here.
