At first glance BOMAS 1 looks like a souvenir from the Bomas of Kenya, a tourist-oriented showcase for traditional dancing and music, but the title dates it to 1981 when the OAU held its 18th summit meeting in Nairobi, a conference at which Kenya’s then president, Daniel Arap Moi, was elected chairman of the OAU. The two singles with BOMAS prefixes were released by AIT.

In 2015 Fredrik Lavik of the Afro7 website alerted me to BKO 002, which is another Moi praise song – the title translates as  “Thank You Father Moi” – but this time on a Polygram label.
