KVS 005 Mac Jones Tribute To Bob Marley/Jah Woman 1988
BEMBA
Considering that Bob Marley died in May 1981, it took a while - seven years to be exact - for this tribute, KVS 005, to be released in East Africa. I’m not even sure, given the label reference to Teal Records, whether it even is a Kenyan release, although it certainly was on sale in the country. Even weirder, the only references I’ve been able to find about the record or the artist have been on Polish and Portuguese websites. Not knowing either language, all I can add is that it is definitely a reggae tune and appears to have had a 12-in release in Portugal.
Many thanks to Sofiane of Groovy Record in Paris for supplying the label scan and record information for KVS 005 in March 2011. KVS 001 turned up on eBay in January 2016. The label gets the band’s name wrong as this is clearly Sweet Desire, a South African pop band led by Kelly Ndlovu, making this label an outlet for South African releases in Kenya.
