One of the labels of the Doromy Instrumental Company in Nairobi - others are Golden Toddy and Pino. This seems to have operated in the 1970s.
Lunna Kidi are H Ochieng Kabaselleh’s band, a fixture of the Kenyan music scene in the 1970s and 1980s, so it is a surprise to find DM-7 listed as being in Lingala on the label. The band also recorded for Editions Kokise, Pathe, Sango and Vibao.
DM 31 and DM 41 features Somajeko International (DM 41 mispells their name on the label), who also had their own Doromy label, Editions Somajeko. The band are Orch Somajeko or a later incarnation of it, a group that featured Sammy Kasule, later with Orch Vundumuna, who also found success as a solo artist. He is now based in Stockholm, Sweden, where he fronts a band called Makonde.
Details of DM 21, supplied by Flemming Harrev from Denmark, suggest that this may be a Swahili and English version of Son of Africa, a song by the same band that appears on Ben’s International sung in Dholuo. Both were presumably released in the wake of Jomo Kenyatta’s death on 22 August, 1978.
