Werner Graebner’s excellent sleevenotes on the LP Abana Ba Nasery: Classic Acoustic Recordings from Western Kenya (Globestyle, 1989) say Diploma was set up in Nairobi by Manasse Omwona in 1964, making him the first independent African record producer in Kenya. This would suggest these records date from the late 1960s and 1970s.

The label seems to have spread its net wide with songs in Dholuo, Luhya, Swahili, Lingala and Kipsigis.

Intriguingly DCC 001 features a writing credit for Fan Fan, though I can find no reference to Mose Se Fan Fan playing with Orch Super Kumba Kumba. Mose Se Fan Fan is the former OK Jazz guitarist who went on to form Orch Somo Somo and, with Remmy Ongala, Orch Super Matimila.
