WACHEZAJI

AP Chandarana of Kericho was clearly a born entrepreneur, running a host of niche labels such as Pwani, which specialised in taarab, and this one, Wachezaji, which I initially thought was dedicated to the dance music of Ugandan singer Ecklas Kawalya until, in March 2009 and September 2010, Kikuyu singles by Joseph Kamaru turned up on the label. The veteran leader of the City Sound Band and Kamaru Celina Band also recorded for Kenya United Sounds and KMS among others. Besides recording for the Kericho-based label, he and Mwari Wanyina also cut records for the Furaha label, another AP Chandarana operation.
