Set up by David Amunga in 1964 or 1965, Mwangaza Music Stores was one of the first African-owned labels in Kenya and its first release, America to Africa, was a huge hit. Others followed on the sister label, Twist.


GT 7-75 bears the date 1973, suggesting the label was in operation for at least a decade.
