KENTANZA VINYL
2010
Apart from information received via e-mail from collectors around the world, I also regularly trawl secondhand record websites looking for East African records to add to this discography.
It can be a frustrating process, particularly on sites where records are lumped together into the catch-all categories of ‘World’ or ‘African’, forcing me to scroll through page after page and often coming up empty-handed.
Recently, though, Ebay has turned up trumps with a batch of singles from a seller in Nairobi. Some are well-known but 20 or so I hadn’t encountered before. These have now been added to the database and I only wish that Ebay hadn’t changed its system so I could have added images for some of the new labels too.
These new labels are Vedi’s and N.G. Sound. As well as them, there have been additions to the listings for Diploma, Equator Records, Furaha, Editions Les Kinois and Editions Sakumuna, Kamuingi, Kenya United Sounds, Karura Brothers, Kihumbu Harmonic Sound, N-Toguo Sounds, Sawa Sawa Sound, Mercury and World Records.
